Ward’s Science Kits for the OpenSciEd curriculum take the hassle out of lesson prep, giving teachers everything they need to deliver hands-on, engaging science activities. With all the materials provided, teachers can focus on teaching without worrying about gathering supplies.

To see how the kits work in real classrooms, we asked STEM educator and teacher Naomi Meredith to try out the Earth’s Resources and Human Impact kit. Here’s her Teacher Picks review and why she recommends these kits for making science lessons easier and more interactive.

Could this kit align with any specific standards or curriculum guidelines?

Yes! This is what makes these kits so appealing to teachers. Everything is outlined, including all the standards, right on the website to help you figure out how to use it for your specific needs. You’ll see that it has the standards, all the supplies listed, and a lot more.

What’s the tie-in to OpenSciEd?

If you are a teacher who uses OpenSciEd, this kit is a great addition to your lessons since it has the materials you need to cover multiple lessons. (Not familiar with the OpenSciEd curriculum? Don’t worry—it’s free and you can download it here.)

What did you like most about this kit?

I really enjoyed having the unit materials sorted by lesson plan. Overall, it was straightforward as to which materials went with each lesson since they were clearly labeled. Plus there were enough for a whole class and the materials list for this specific unit.

How’s the quality overall?

The materials seem high-quality and/or name-brand so you don’t have to worry about them falling apart when conducting the experiment. With science kits in the past, I’ve been frustrated when my kit didn’t have everything that I needed, especially unique items. But that wasn’t the case here. For example, one lesson in this kit needed a hacksaw and they provided it!

How does this make your job as a teacher easier?

It definitely saves me time. The last thing I want to be doing on the weekends is running around to multiple stores finding the exact items I need for the experiment. Everything is right here.
